Preston, United Kingdom (24th October, 2012) – PHC Law, specialist personal injury solicitors who take cases on a no win no fee basis, have successfully recovered £14,000 compensation for a taxi passenger who suffered significant crushing injuries to the hand, following an accident involving a lorry.

On 2nd September 2009, on the way to his workplace in a taxi, the Claimant stopped to purchase a newspaper. Whilst doing so, the taxi parked in a designated parking bay at the side of the road.

When the Claimant returned and was getting into the back of the taxi with his hand on the door, the Defendant’s lorry set off, which caused the trailer to veer into the parking bay and hit the Claimant’s right hand, causing crushing injuries.

Medical evidence obtained from a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon confirmed that the Claimant had suffered fractures to two fingers, together with lacerations.

The Claimant was signed off work for a period of up to six weeks due to the accident and extent of his injuries. Further medical evidence established that the Claimant had been left with some restrictions to his ability to function both at work and at home, and indicated that the Claimant generally was not able to cope with these restrictions.

Mr John Cooper, Senior Consultant of PHC Law who handled the case, said: “This has been a horrific experience for my client, who has been left traumatised by the circumstances of the accident and extremely frustrated by how his life has become restricted because of his injuries.

“Unfortunately accidents happen unexpectedly, and the financial losses faced by those who have needed to have taken time off work – or payment reductions for those who have returned to work and have been given lighter duties – can cause significant stress.

“Financial loss is not something we are prepared for when an accident like this occurs, so I would encourage anyone who has suffered an injury through no fault of their own to get in touch with us and seek our help.”
