Surrey, United Kingdom, (13th December, 2011) – Elusion UK, retailers of the Elusion Electronic Cigarette, a smoke-free alternative to traditional cigarettes, has defended the use of e-cigarettes in the wake of a recent ban on the devices in the US city of Boston.
This month, Boston health officials voted to ban the use of e-cigarettes in the workplace and limit their sale to adults only, which is the same legislation in place for tobacco products in the city. The workplace ban extends to restaurant patios and decks and loading docks, and they must be placed behind shop counters to help prevent sale to children.
E-cigarettes, a popular method of stopping smoking which release nicotine in vapour form, are still a relatively new product and have gone largely unregulated. A vote was also passed to double the fines of any Boston retailers contravening the city’s tobacco control regulations.
A spokesperson for Elusion UK said: “Whilst the ban is disappointing, e-cigarettes still represent an excellent way to stop smoking. There is no concrete proof as of yet to suggest e-cigarettes are harmful in any way and legislation such as this could end up hindering those looking to stop smoking. Should such a ban spread to other areas of the world, we would remind people that they can still use e-cigarettes at home, and can therefore still use them as an integral part of their process to quit smoking. We do, however, support the ban on sales of the product to minors and would welcome similar rules here in the UK.”
