Cambodia’s economic prospects at the heart of the ASEAN Economic Community, which will come into existence in 2015, will top the agenda on a number of panels at the International Business Chamber of Cambodia (IBC) Investment Conference, which runs from October 6-7at the Intercontinental Hotel in Phnom Penh.
Cambodia’s Prime Minister Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen will open the conference, which will also feature a keynote address by Prudential Asia Chairman Donald Kanak and panels and break-out sessions covering every sector of Cambodia’s economy.
Cambodia’s contribution to ASEAN will be discussed in a panel on Cambodia’s Digital Future covering Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) as well as a panel on the country’s financial sector.
Government ministers who have confirmed their attendance at the conference include Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce H.E Sun Chanthol, Education Minister H.E. Hang Chuon Naron and Minister
of Posts & Telecommunication (MPTC) H.E. Prak Sokhonn.
Representatives from regional blue chip companies are already expressing interest in attending what will be Cambodia’s biggest networking event of the year.
Ministers, economists and business leaders will share their views on what ASEAN integration will mean for Cambodia’s economy–with business leaders in the Kingdom upbeat about Cambodia’s potential to thrive in the 10-country economic community.
“ASEAN integration is coming at just the right time for Cambodia, which has enjoyed robust growth in recent years and will surely benefit from closer economic ties with its neighbors,” says IBC Chairman Bretton Sciaroni, senior partner at Sciaroni and Associates.
Cambodia has been a leading destination in ASEAN for foreign direct investment–which grew some 73% in 2012 and is likely to sustain double-digit growth as ASEAN integration draws near.
The Kingdom’s increasingly skilled workforce, ongoing economic and structural reforms and political stability are all proving attractive to a growing number of foreign investors in the country–mainly from ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific region, notably China and Japan.
Getting the inside track on who is investing in what will be a key feature of the networking events being planned for the IBC conference–which will allow delegates to mingle at cocktail receptions, lunches and a golf day ahead of the conference where relationships will be formed and business deals teed up.
