Scotland, United Kingdom – Scottish schoolchildren, between the ages of 13 and 18 are being invited to take part in the Arnold Clark Scottish Schools Challenge.
This year’s competition is more exciting than ever, with over £30,000 of prizes available and the chance for some children to have their very own smart phone app. Children from over 95 schools across the country will be asked to form teams and work together in order to create their very own downloadable mobile phone game, which will be made available in the form of a downloadable app. The lucky winners will receive 10 state of the art computers for their school, the use of a minibus for a 2 year period and a free Apple MacBook for each participating member of the team.
The main goal of the challenge is to give school children an insight into the day to day life of running a business. It is also hoped that the challenge will encourage more children to become inventors and entrepreneurs who will make a real difference in future generations; something which is very close to the heart of Sir Arnold Clark, who himself is a keen entrepreneur, dealing in the sale of used cars.
This year, the competition will be judged by cutting edge Glasgow game firm, Chunk Games, who have worked with massive names such as Disney, in the past. Brian McHarg, Technical director of the company said: ‘This is a great opportunity to use this experience to help young inventive minds take their first steps into the games industry by creating an amazing mobile game for a great brand.”
The lucky competition winners will be treated to a tour of Chunk Games, where they will be able to see their game being made. The winning game will subsequently be released in 2012, thanks to the support of Arnold Clark.
